Persistent Farmers: Left Off The List

This latest episode was a little different. I started out solo, reflecting on the journey of Field Good Life, and then brought on a fellow friend and familiar face in the industry—Cat Frans.

We covered a little bit of everything: the wild ride of launching a podcast while trying to farm through the wettest spring in 133 years, the grit it takes to keep going when plans change, and why staying rooted in community matters more than ever.

If you’ve been farming—or even watching a farmer—this season, you already know. The weather has not been kind. We’re behind on planting, adjusting expectations daily, and doing our best to make it all pencil out. But as Cat and I talked about, that’s farming. It’s never been about perfect conditions. It’s about persistence. You show up, get muddy, and do what you can.

We also spent some time chatting about how closely tied agriculture is to our local communities. Whether it’s the parts guy staying open late or the neighbor dropping off supper, farming touches everything—and everyone. Cat’s perspective as someone who works both in the industry and with people behind the scenes brought so much heart to that conversation.

And, as always, we talked about the importance of education. Not the textbook kind (though that’s helpful too), but the real, lived-in version—telling our stories, answering the hard questions, and making sure people outside of ag understand why this work matters.

So, if you’re in the thick of it right now, this one’s for you. If you’re watching from the sidelines and wondering why your farmer friends have gone quiet—this one’s for you, too. We’re all figuring it out, and sometimes the best way to do that is to talk it through with someone who gets it.

🎧 Tune in to the latest episode for some laughs, a few honest moments, and the kind of conversation that feels like sitting on the tailgate at the end of a long day.
